I found a stray. What do I do?
If the weather is nice and the animal appears friendly, well fed, has a nice clean coat and is content and out of harms way, consider monitoring it for a day or so to see if it returns home.
BHS staff can be reached at 218-283-9276. Leave a message if you are calling outside our regular business hours,
3pm- 7pm Tuesday through Friday, 8am - noon Saturdays.
In the meantime, if you cannot hold the animal until the owner is found and if found within the city limits of International Falls, you can call the Int'l Falls Police Department at (218) 283-4416. If found outside of the city limits of International Falls you can attempt calling the Koochiching County Sheriff's Department at (218)283-4416 to assist you.
If the animal is friendly, we may ask you to transport the animal to our location at an arranged time. If the animal is hurt, proceed directly to the nearest veterinary office as we do not have the credentials to care for injured animals. If the animal is aggressive, contact law enforcement.
