Barkley Paije & Pistachio Jamison
How could they have know that after two month, after their initial meeting, after being rescued from the streets of International Falls by the International Falls Police Department, that they would become brother and sister? The kind employees and volunteers of the Borderland Humane Society gave both of these fuzzy children the love and attention they deserved. We feel that these actions contributed to their playful and loving dispositions. |
After loosing our beloved Fido to kidney failure July 23, 2009, Mike and I realized how quiet our home was, it was too quiet. After a couple of weeks of virtual silence, I decided to bring Barkley home from the holding facility for the weekend. The weekend passed and that next week Mike adopted her. Barkley is Mike’s son’s dog – she hugs him and loves him to the end of the earth. The house was not longer quiet by any means, but it was still lacking something…a cat. I adopted Pistachio a couple of weeks later.

The two kids play and fight like they are true brother and sister. Barkley chases Pistachio all around the house, Pistachio hits Barkley and Barkley nibbles on Pistachio’s ears (and sometimes his whole head) EVERY day. Each morning they sit in our picture window and watch the kids walk by on their way to school. A really fun game they recently discovered is played in the bathroom. Pistachio jumps into the tub and then jumps at Barkley through the shower curtain (always remaining hidden from Barkley, at least in Pistachio’s mind). Our home is no longer quiet and it’s full of love and black fur. Kallie & Mike |

| Newly adopted kittens from the BHS now living in Lake Forest, IL share comfort and love with a wonderful family who has never had the pleasure of animals due to allergies. Although still an issue that they are winning the war on, the love of these two kittens was all well worth it for this family. |

Why We Foster, By Rachel Crawford
These puppies were the ones that my dad picked up off the side of the road in the dead of winter. We had to leave the next day on a trip so we had to
find a place for the puppies but there was no where for them to go. We
called the police dispatch office saying we had the puppies and asked who we
had to call. The lady there was so relieved we had picked up the puppies
because a logger had called them in and they didn't know who to send out to
get them. This is the whole reason we started fostering. These poor
puppies were so starved that they were bloated. All we had for them was cat
food and they snarfed it right down and they drank two huge bowls of water
before they were finally satisfied. They were so cold from being outside
that I had to snuggle with them for a while. They were so cute and I
couldn't understand how anyone could do something like this. This is why I
love fostering puppies. I was so happy when I heard all of them had gotten
good homes.
