MOOSE
Just to let you know Moose is doing well here. He is licensed and micro chipped. He and our Tri Collie play together all the time and look for each other when separated. He was fine the second day of our trip home to Kentucky riding in the truck cab next to me looking around, sleeping or his favorite hanging his head out the window. He would also bark if a stranger got too close to the truck. Since being here has accepted our chickens and turkeys and loves riding anything with a motor. We have a small tractor with bucket and a 60 inch mower deck and yesterday while I was cutting the grass he hopped up on the deck and tried to get onto my lap. He had to settle for following me around but when I finished he hopped up on the tractor seat to check things out for himself. This dog has no fear of motorized equipment. He is smart and learns quickly perhaps he'll learn to drive it. I thought you should know things are going well. Sean |
SadieSadie is doing great. She did not lose weight in her first month with us so we are trying a vet prescribed food. Sadie is social with us and has not been destructive. She has had no issues with using her litter box. The other cats still aren't sure about cuddling with her but they are not pushing her out as she weighs more than her two kitty sisters added together. Thanks again!

Rambo
It’s been almost 2 months since we took the drive from Houghton, Michigan to adopt Rambo and he is doing great! He gets along well with his sisters Mina and Corina and brother Monkey. He is now talking quite a lot and he is even sitting on my lap when I’m working. We are so happy we’re able to provide him with a safe and loving home. Thanks Borderland! - Lois Raymond |
Mickey
Mickey is the kind of dog that everybody hopes to have. The first time I saw him on the BHS website I instantly wanted to know more, he's a handsome fella! When I went to visit I just knew he was the dog for us. My boyfriend and I have been waiting for the day we could finally have our own dog and when we moved into our new house the search started - and ended with Mickey! He is a gentle-man mixed with a goofball! He has great manners but at the same time does silly things that will keep you laughing all night. Mickey now gets to share our comfy king sized bed, get daily visits to the lake we live a mile away from, and has a spot on any open lap he can find! We are so, so happy to be able to call Mickey our life long friend! -Hannah and James |

Fredrick
Hello Lovies! Fredrick here, but if you want to talk sexy to me just call
me Fred (with a French undertone) I will come to you Mon-Cherie! My handsomeness won over my new fur-human servants. I was simply meant to be fostered. Only one day in my presence and I won their hearts with my big green eyes and my soft silky silver coat. I am also very good at purring on Que, playing in boxes and lovingly waking every one up at 5 am. I was so happy to find out i would also have a concubine at this home by the name of Boo. She is a bit of a tart that girl! But I keep her in line.
Bonjour! Frrrrredriiick.

Willow (right)
Willow was a runaway pup and went missing from Sept, 2013 - Feb 2014. She is soooo happy to be back with her Momma Robin and her pal Joey. Let's pray that her heart desire will never leave her wandering again. What a joyous reunion. She went missing in Ely while on a family vacation in September and was found in Duluth, MN in March the following year. Never ever give up hope!

Max and his boy
Hi,
Here are a few pictures of Max, the dog we adopted last summer. He has a special bond with our youngest son Reese. Max is a dedicated protector and beloved pet. He is also spoiled by both sets of grand- parents who can't have a dog but enjoy visits at their homes. He is always there for bedtime stories.

Minxie
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better for Minxie to be adopted, we find out that she was a Christmas present for a special young lady. Could life get sweeter than this? Yes it can when it comes with a forever happy ending. Good luck to you Minxie and your new life.

Jada (aka Mini Mouser)

We adopted out Mini Mouser to a little boy and his mother reports that he not only no longer has bedtime issues as the cat sleeps with him, he no longer has bathtime issues as the kitten will not be left out. She swims with him in the bathtub. I am so amazed at this kitten. You never know what you are going to get when you adopt. We are so shocked and happy for this little boy. He has actually found his "Soul Cat". That is rare.
Mynxie & Confucius

We Happy! We safe, we are fed and we are loved. We found our forever home and we found it together. All that matters now is the love we can give back and the nine lives we have yet to live. We have a new adventure and we plan on being every part of it. Thank you to our new Mom and Dad for making a difference in our lives. We love you.
Muffins the Wanderer

Muffins went missing two weeks ago. Isabel looked and looked but couldn't find him anywhere. She was almost to the point of giving up, when I contacted her with the picture posted by the humane society. I didn't know that muffins had gone missing, but when I saw that face and it said he loved to talk, I had a feeling. I got ahold of isabel and asked her if by some chance muffins was missing. She was all excited and said that, yes he had been missing for about 2 weeks. I gave her the number to call and she was just ecstatic. She went and picked him up today, August 13. He is now safe and sound back home!:) Thank you Borderland Humane Society and thank you to the person that brought him in so he can be safe while I continued my search.

Such a hard life we live with our new family. See us curled up with our owner? Ya....it's one heck of a life for two little clowns. We are so happy to be with each other and with such a wonderful couple. Thank you so much for caring to find us a wonderful home. Love D & C
Matches

Hi,
This is Matches, we adopted him about 7 years ago as a kitten from borderland humane society. He is a great member of our family with his great personality and warm loving and curious disposition. We love him so much and are still as happy as we were the day we got him!
Thanks,

Winston

Well I made it to the home I will get to grown up in with my new brother and with people who will love me forever. I could not be happier to be living the life of a cat. (Winston is on the right) I fit right in and expecially since I was so small. I have lots of room to grow and that is what I plan on doing. I am going to be the bestest cat in the world.
Riley

This is Riley, the cat we adopted :-) Adam rescued him a few months back from a neglected life he was living by bringing him to town and giving him to a co worker's relative who then decided they didn't want him...well, we adopted Mr. Riley from BHS and he and Atrius are the BEST OF FRIENDS!! God couldn't of made it any clearer that Riley was the cat who would complete our family! He is loved tremendously and now lives a happy life with a warm bed, food and water, and a family who adores him which is something he definitely deserves!

Tessie (aka Kaboodle)

Hi, just wanted to give you an update on Tessie (aka Kaboodle).
She has become the center of our lives.
The first night we got her, we where not so sure. We stayed in a motel room that night and Tessie felt it was her job to keep us up all night and she did it quite well with lots of kisses and squeaks. Still now, she still feels 4 AM is wake up time.
Tessie travels well and handles the 5 hour drive to our cabin like a pro. There she spends her time at the window watching the birds, turkeys and deer. We are waiting to see how she reacts to the bears.
Thank you for holding on to her till we could pick her up. We can not image our lives without her.

Duke (aka Bandit)

We would like to send out a HUGE Thank You to BHS!! Duke (AKA Bandit) has been such a day brightener!! He always has a smile on his face and those ears will melt your heart! I saw Duke on "Pet of the Week" and that face just caught my eye. I also heard about him on "The Pet Report" on the radio every Tuesday and Thursday morning at work and I just had to meet him. It took some convincing of Dustin to bring a K-9 home, but now those two are inseparable!
Duke was recently trained to stay within our yard limits. He now runs around our 10 acre property with NO leash OR shock collar. He loves to sniff out animal tracks, and play fetch in the back yard. He is the smartest dog I've ever met! It's pretty awesome! He is always welcomed by our families, and his 'cousin dogs'. Thanks again, BHS for allowing us to bring Duke into a forever home. He will forever be loved, and not to mention, SPOILED!!

Barney

I would like to "Thank You" for Barney. He was previously known as Shadow at the Borderland Humane Society. He is what is called a "Bassador" He is half Basset Hound and Half Labrador Retriever. He is definitely the best of both breeds. He was adopted from The Borderland Humane Society June of 2010.
Barney stays with our family when Lynn who adopted him is on vacation. He is a happy and loving dog. Lynn feels that he is one of the best things that has happened to her family and we also feel that way. We definitely look forward to Barney coming to stay with us. He gets along with all dogs and cats and loves people I have never met a more sociable and happy dog.....Thank You for bringing Barney into all of our lives......He is lucky to have two families that love him very much.

Buddy

This is Buddy. We adopted him on 6-25-2010 from the Borderland Humane Society. My friend, Jane Welch, is from International Falls and had seen Buddy's profile listed on the website and she knew he would be a perfect match for us. We drove from Andover, Minnesota to get Buddy and made the long trip back home. We have been so happy to have Buddy as part of our family. He loves to go on walks and loves to go running. It has been nearly 3 years since we made that long trip to International Falls and am so glad we found each other. Buddy has brought us much joy!
Thank you Borderland Humane Society!

This is Thalia, AKA "Pitsi" we adopted her in January and she has been a delight! Just as it should be...safe in the arms of forever humans.
Callie

Callie was finally adopted after being abandoned by her owners and brought to the Borderland Humane Society. She is now in the phases of checking out her new home and stretching her boundaries. Her new humans adore her and her purrrrrsuasive affections. Lots of purrs ahead for Callie.
Peanut
Cindy and Crew at Borderland Humane Society,
We had to put our 15 year old girl Dachshund to sleep last August and I said I'd never get another dog. But then my cousin saw Peanut on your website in February and let me know about him. I live four hours away and was willing to journey to pick him up but his foster mom Robin was kind enough to deliver him to us (thanks again!). We've barely had him a week but have fallen in love with his spunk and loving. I didn't realize how much I missed having a dog around. He will be well taken care of.
Peanut is adjusting to our family. He was home alone on Monday with my older son so they bonded and no more growling/barking. Peanut likes his girlfriend Jill also. My younger son was home for a day but not too much time alone together yet so he will still bark some at him but I know he will come around. I'm stopping by our vet today with his records for her to look over. He was 16 lbs this morning on my scale but I'd like to take him in a couple times a month to use the vet's scale. He is such a lover/cuddler like you said. We thought about changing his name but he is a little nut so we are keeping Peanut. We love him already!

Callie

Hello, My (now) husband and I drove up to you from Indiana this past December to adopt a calico Siberian cat name Callie. I just wanted to let you know that we are SO happy that we came up to get her and so appreciative that you saved her for us while we made the long hike up there. She loves to be with us and we completely love her to death! (Can you tell she's spoiled?) ha. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that she's doing wonderfully, actually sitting on my lap right now, and wanted to tell you about our complete happiness with her and we love what you guys are doing.
Thank you so much!!

Ohana (aka Daisy)

Our family found a loveable, huggable, playful forever family member at Borderland Humane Society. At the shelter she was known as Daisy. We changed her name to Ohana "Ohahnah" which means family in Hawaiian. With our 3 kids and property she has plenty of room to run and play. After an adjustment period with our existing dog they are becoming friends. He is learning that she is just here to play and have fun. She has made all of your lives fuller with her companionship and love. Thank you Borderland for saving our big baby girl.
Lucy

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
We are very happy to have Lucy as a part of our family and Lucy is happy too. She enjoys playing fetch, running around and swimming. We are so glad she is a part of our lives.

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
Just wanted you to see how well Murphy has adapted to our home. We would definitely say he has acclimated!
Thanks for your helping in our adoption.
He is a great guy.

P.S. Here are a couple of photos of our Main Coon adoptions from you…such fun for us!

Mattie

HELLO EVERYONE! Remember me? My name is Mattie and I lived at the BHS for quite a few months. I had a Thyroid condition and could not gain any weight. I am now living in Mpls area with my new forever Mom. We together are managing my health issues with prescriptions. I have gained 3 lbs. YEAH ME! Thank you everyone for what you did for me. I will never forget you.

Odie

Just a quick note to let you know how Odie is doing.....since he has been here he has been neutered, successfully house trained, sits, lays down, shakes hands, does high fives with both paws, eats as much as our horses, loves tennis balls and rawhide bones, doesn’t chase his tail anymore and has done good with the horses and cows, is not chasing the cats too bad, has been left alone in the house for 6 - 8 hours at a time with no potty accidents or misbehaviors. He is quite the snuggler on the couch and a bit of a bed hog in the morning until he gets us up. To make a very long story short we love him, he loves us and has said he is happy to allow us to enjoy him forever. We thank you again and you can rest assured this was a very successful adoption.

Lady

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
We thought you might enjoy these pictures. Lady is settling in so well--it’s like she’s always been here. The picture of the dogs on the bed with two of our grandchildren was taken in the camper—it was her first camping trip, and she loved it. (There wasn’t much room for Grandma and Grandpa in bed though!) Sometimes at night she actually puts her head on my pillow and her arm around me. She got a good report at the vet, and her appointment to get spayed is on the 16th.
Thanks again, Linda Zerr

Lilly

My name is Lilly and I am a special cat. I came to the BHS foster care and from there found my forever home. Not only did I find my forever home but also a forever bedtime buddy. I am in love with my new brother. As you can see, good things come to those who are patient.
Please help my other friends who are homeless find their forever homes too just like me. Thank you to all who are making a difference.

Little Boo

Little Boo (the black/white kitten) surely found happiness and peace in her forever home.
You might say, she found a big sister. If dogs and cats can live together peacefully, than maybe we all can too.
Thank you to the family that made a difference!

Skywalker

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
Wow! I cant believe how well Skywalker took to us. He is just a snuggler. Rode quietly in his carrier until we were out of the city, then Barb took him out. He sat in her lap getting scratched for a while and then started to explore. Had to put him back in the carrier for a while cause he decided the best spot was on the dashboard in front of me.... When it was Barbs turn to drive he sprawled on my lap and
fell asleep on my arm. Adorable.
Grateful for a chance to make a difference,
The Gray family

Lynx (aka Leonard)

Having a fondness for long-haired orange cats, I saw a picture of this cat in the Daily Journal about 7 years ago. I immediately called BHS and they gave me the phone number of the foster family. The next day I went to Littlefork and visited "Leonard" (his name was Lynx at the time). I fell in love and the rest is history. I am not sure how Leonard came to BHS. What I am sure about is he is the most affectionate cat I've ever owned, and brings a smile to my face whenever I look at him.
Snookie

Happy Day Borderland Humane Society,
The kids and I were Sooo excited. Snookie has adjusted quite well to our family. She loves to be held like a baby and get her tummy rubbed. Her favorite spot in the house is anywhere next to a family member. Thank you so much for helping her find a family. We wouldn't trade her for anything. One cute and unique thing about Snookie is that she doesn't meow, only purrs all the time. Snookie sits by her brother... Stanley our yorkie! He loves her. He has no problem with her rubbing up against him.
Kind Regards, Sara

Floyd (aka Hans)

Hi Borderland Humane Society, Things are going really well with Hans!!
we renamed him...and he answers to it ok... it is Floyd. Floyd osolomon. Our family loves him already!!! He already seems to have a bit more pep in him. We took him for a long bush walk earlier today with 5 other dogs and he did wonderfully! I got him some good weight loss dog food....and hope to take 20 lbs off him by summer. He is such a sweet soul...and gets along with our other dog and cat well. He already has a 'spot' in our porch that he has claimed. He was also pretty excited to be invited up onto the 'dog couch'...although he needed a bit of a boost. lol. He already got stuck in the car and needed help getting out of there too. He seems really happy....and has taken to me fast...he doesn't leave my side for long. I'll send you updates and pictures from time to time.....I have no doubt he will be with us for the rest of his life. :)
Thanks again for such a wonderful dog, Melissa

Matilda

Hello, my name is Matilda and I rescued my people from a life of misery. What would they do without me. They had somehow survived all this time without the love of a cat. How sad for them. I do not know how they ever managed, but here I am now and they will never have to worry ever again thanks to the Borderland Humane Society. Cats like me are needed in homes all over the city but people just wander aimlessly unaware of what they are missing. Fortunately for my Humans, I was able to save them in time. I love my new home and they love me. What else matters?
Obie (aka Beeker)

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
My name is Obie and I was one of the kitties that my former Human threw away in a box and left us out in the cold.
I am now here to tell you that because of your kindness and love, I have found my forever home with the boy of my dreams. I think I was his dream too because he tells me every day how much he loves me, how long he has waiting to have a kitty like me and that makes me so happy.
I now have a warm bed to sleep in at night, lots of windows to curl up in during the day and all the fresh food and water my heart can hold. I am now in my own Heaven.
Love, Obie (aka-Beeker)

Lola (aka Winter)

I'M SO HAPPY! Hello everyone! For those who do not know me, I am Winter, aka Lola. I was a regular at the Borderland Humane Society for quite some time, but now, thanks to the wonderful people who worked so hard to help me find my forever home, I have been adopted and life is grand. I now have a wonderful, forever home. I have a new sibling that I really love and as you can see from my photos, I am spoiled and I like to show off because I am so happy! Thank you everyone! I now know that all of my Christmas's will be merry from now on.

Link (aka Tosh)

Tosh's new name is Link, which is one of my sons favorite character from the game Zelda.
Link is a very loved kitty by all of us. As you can tell by the picture, our cat, Brick accepted Link and became good friends.
Thank you for Link, he brought much happiness to my son and a new friend to our cat.
He is a very good kitty and he fits very well in our home. We love him so much!

Lily

I wanted to thank you again for letting me adopt this darling little girl in October! We've now had three weeks to start getting used to having a puppy in the house again! She's fitting in beautifully! I attached a couple of pics some friends took of her on one of her first playdates!
I have named her Lily Tomlin (Tommie). She is keeping her two Jack Russell Terrier "brothers" very busy! Tommie and Zak are good wrestling buddies and he's showing her the general ropes. It took a few days for Tommie to win over REO (who is accustomed to being the youngster here) but they're becoming good racing and wrestling buddies and once she learns a wee bit more about not using those puppy needles they call teeth it will be even better! ROFL
Tommie already has quite the fan club both online and in person with several of them threatening to dog-nap her when I'm not looking! She has started a puppy class and will soon start another. She is an incredible joy to have around and is one great shoulder warmer at snuggle time!
Thank you! Laura

Jackson (Johnny Boy)

Hello good people of BHS: Just wanted to share a picture of our little pound puppy, Jackson (formerly Johnny Boy). I have to be honest, he was quite the handful when he first got home, VERY, VERY active. He also had chewing issues and very bad separation anxiety. It's been a little over a year now and he's just the most loving little guy. He is still very high energy but now it's not shown in a negative way. The picture I've included is when he's letting us know he's tired and ready for bed - our little china-eyes character. Thanks so much for all the wonderful animals you save!

Little Anne

I wanted to take the time to thank you for helping us find our little darling. As you can see we have given our little girl a new name of Lillie Anne. This name is in honor of a family members favorite flower and my mother's middle name.
Lillie is adapting to her new home with energy and a developing personality that continues to become cuter as the days go by. She is such a love and it saddens me each time I think of her and her brother being placed in a garage to be fed and little else.
I visit Borderland's site quite often and am always drawn to the pets ten commandments and I just wanted to comment on who ever wrote that did so with a true understanding of what having a pet as a part of your family is truly about. They should be treated with the same respect, patience and love that is shown their human companions.
Again would like to thank you for the work that you and all of the volunteers at Borderland do.
Warmest regards, Mark

Kiki

Hi. My name is KiKi (aka Halle Berry) and I was a BHS kitty 2 times. I have finally found my forever home. I have brother dogs that let me sleep and play with them. This is what forever means and believe me when I say that I have found a piece of kitty heaven. I have proven to be a great mouser at my country home and I tend to worry my human when I venture too far from the house but I always find my way back home. Thank you to all who helped me find my way and my forever home. I am loved at last.
Love, KiKi

Winnie (Pooh Bear)

Dear Borderland Humane Society,
She is systematically going through the cat's toy basket and destroying each one. Right now she has a bird that chirps when you squeeze it. She has figured it out and is having a hell of a good time. Throwing it in the air and pouncing on it. She is loosing her shyness and becoming a clown. She is walking really well on the leash already. When I pick up the leash she meets me at the door. We've been on six walks already today. We want her to know when she goes outside with us she gets to come back too. She seeks us out for head rubs. She's wonderful!

Snowie (aka Duchess)

Duchess dressed up for Halloween
I have been meaning to email you sooner but seems like I have never gotten around to it. I adopted Duchess back in August and renamed her Snowie. She was shy at first and bit skid dish but seems to have come around very quickly. She is such a love able and adorable cat and has adapted well to living with my other dog and cat Ice and Frostie. I still can't imagine her being a stray as she is such a beautiful and loving cat. Also I took her to get spaded since I didn't have time on the short trip I was up there but she had already been spaded. I have enclosed some pics for you guys to see how she has come along.
Thanks again for blessing me with this wonderful animal.
Sincerely, Paul Bradley

Meow

l was a lost kitty with one paw frozen in the ice until I was found, rescued and brought to the Borderland Humane Society. Now, thanks to their help, I found my forever human and my forever bed and my forever love. I think I will be happy for the rest of my 9 lives. Thank you to my rescuer who found me as I would not be here today if it wasn't for your kindness.
