Why Donate to the Borderland Humane Society?
The Borderland Humane Society (BHS) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization that serves to prevent inhumane and cruel treatment of animals, primarily those considered as pets. Established in 1973, BHS serves the city of International Falls, Minnesota and the greater Koochiching County.
One of our key tasks is managing pet overpopulation through spay and neuter programs. BHS promptly investigates all reports of animal neglect and cruelty and advocates for adherence to animal welfare laws. We provide a telephone answer line (staffed by on-call volunteers) for the public to leave messages regarding animal care or concerns.
Like most shelters and humane societies, a great deal of our funding is used to house and care for homeless, neglected and abused animals and spay/neuters. We operate from limited space at our holding facility and we have a wonderful, committed group of volunteers who take these otherwise homeless or unwanted pets into their care until placement can be made or a forever home can be found.
